Rita K. Shelton, 66, Columbia City, passed away at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018, peacefully at her home. Born Feb. 6, 1952, in Huntington, she was the daughter of Willis J. Sims and Geraldine F. (Cunningham) Sims.

She was a lifelong resident of Whitley County, attending South Whitley High School. She worked at C.F. Goma, Dana Weatherhead and retired from The Oaks. She had been a member of the Eagles.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheri Shelton Leazier, Columbia City; son, Dan (Kristen) Shelton, Bedford, Va.; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters, Judy Wilmot and Francis Adams; and brothers, Chet, Dave and Tim Sims. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Larry and Bill Sims and sister, Phyllis Stayer.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
