Warsaw Tennis: Tigers Go 1-1 In Invite

MUNCIE – The Warsaw girls tennis team posted a 1-1 mark in the Delta Invitational on Saturday.

The Tigers opened play by downing Muncie Burris by a 5-0 count.

Liza Lewis led the way for Warsaw with a 6-4, 6-3 win on the No. 1 singles court. Ella Knight posted a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and Alyssa Zellers completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles action.

The Tigers won in straight sets in doubles too as the team of Taylor Shoaf and Rachel Yeager won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1. The duo of Rachel Boyle and Amy Herendeen won 6-1, 6-1 at N. 2.

Warsaw then lost to Carroll 5-0 in a second-round match. It was the second loss of the season to the Chargers, who are ranked No. 4. Carroll defeated the Tigers by a 5-0 count at Carroll on April 23.

Lewis dropped a 6-2, 6-3 final, while Knight lost 6-0, 6-3 and Zellers fell 6-1, 6-2.

The doubles team of Shoaf and Yeager lost 6-1, 6-1. The team of Boyle and Reagan Merchant dropped a 6-0, 6-1 final at No. 2 play.

Warsaw was scheduled to face Delta in the final round, but due to a schedule conflict the match was not played.

The Tigers, who are 8-3, host NorthWood in Northern Lakes Conference action Tuesday. Warsaw, who is 4-0 in the NLC, then plays at Concord in another league match Wednesday evening. Warsaw finishes NLC play by hosting Goshen May 7 before the NLC Tournament begins on May 9.
