Zoo stories are a fun way to have reading and storytelling experiences. Children from the Syracuse Library are shown at the Fort Wayne Zoo from a previous trip. The story time trip this spring is sponsored by the Syracuse Friends of the Library.

SYRACUSE — Upcoming programs at the Syracuse Library are designed to enhance those things that motivate people to learn. The programs the library offers from April 23-28 will expose people to different foods, new people, things outside of town, crafts and science. The program seeks to build upon ideas from Rural Gateways, which has studied the ways that people become experts. The organization determined that the path generally begins with an overall interest in the topic.

The Friends of the Library is doing a lot to bring quality programs to the community. The club is sponsoring tickets to the zoo for families that are celebrating the end of spring story times. It is also providing an array of salads to taste and experience at the annual Friends Luncheon. The group is also bringing Jeanne Dams to talk about her life in South Bend and as the author of the Dorothy Martin mystery series. Tickets for the luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24 may be purchased at the circulation desk.

Craft projects, such as the butterfly wreath, which is offered April 24 for those who registered, is a good way to try using different materials. Doctor Who is another hands-on event that meets on at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 25 to look at an episode, which has to do with the production of sounds.

Food from Fiction meets at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26 to talk about Michael Pollan’s book, “In Defense of Food.” One of the questions the group will tackle is, “Do you think the people who appreciate reading are more likely also to appreciate good cooking and eating?” Anyone who likes to read is welcome to join the group. This is the last Food from Fiction meeting this year.

WorkOne is at the library to show better ways to write a resume or prepare for a job interview. They bring professional expertise from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Anime, a Japanese animation movie technique, is popular with teens. The library shows several favorite films each month. Young people who are fans of the film-style meet at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 26t. April 26 is also the last Fun at Four, which features games and snacks for school-age children. Story times for preschoolers and toddlers meet for the last week at 10:30 a.m. both on Monday, April 23  and Wednesday, April 25.
