Wawasee logoPLYMOUTH — After a very troubling night that loosely involved both Plymouth and Wawasee Friday, both schools got back to business Saturday.

Plymouth maintained its balance and kept Wawasee at distance in a 62-45 final in girls Northern Lakes Conference basketball.

Wawasee hosted Plymouth in boys basketball Friday night but played under a heavy cloud of heartache as the Wawasee community learned of the suicide of KC Ochs largely during the basketball game. The girls team brought that heartache to Plymouth but still carried on, under certainly heavy hearts.

The game itself saw Plymouth do what it does best, playing its defense to a tee and spreading around the scoring. The Lady Pilgrims (13-4, 4-1 NLC) held Wawasee scoring star KiLee Knafel to just three points in the first half and 19 points overall. Plymouth erupted to a 23-8 lead after the first quarter and doubled up Wawasee in the first half, 36-18.

Plymouth had a pair of girls score in the double digits right out of the gate, with Lauren Tanner scoring nine of her 11 total points in the first quarter and Amber Redinger dropping 10 of her 18 in the first frame. Hunter Stevens scored 17 points for Plymouth and Haley Harrell added 12 total points.

Wawasee (7-9, 0-5 NLC) will return to the court Tuesday when it hosts Tippecanoe Valley while Plymouth also plays Tuesday night, heading to South Bend Clay.
