WARSAW – Phil Jensen gave an awful lot to high school football.

The sport will give the former Warsaw coach something back later this month.

Jensen, who retired in December as the coach of the Tigers, will be honored for his contributions to football at the 45th Annual Moose Krause Memorial Scholar-Athlete Dinner.

The annual event, which recognizes outstanding prep football student-athletes and coaches, will be held April 25 at the St. Hedwig Memorial Center on Western Avenue in South Bend. A cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m.

Jensen guided the Warsaw program for a total of 18 seasons during a pair of coaching stints from 1996-2003 and from 2008-17. He finished with a record of 104-85, the most wins all-time in program history. Jensen guided the Tigers to the first playoff win in program history in 1998 and led his team to four sectional runner-up finishes.

Jensen, who played at both Penn High School and Butler University, was 133-97 overall in 22 seasons at Warsaw and Churubusco. His final team last fall finished 6-5, losing to Penn in the Class 6-A sectional final.

Jensen and his wife Debbie have two children, Samantha and Michael.

Among the high school players slated to be honored at the prestigious dinner are Zach Riley of Warsaw, along with the Triton duo of Drew Stichter and Matthew Hefner.

Tickets for the Moose Krause Dinner at $30 for adults and $20 for those ages 18 and younger.

The featured speaker for the dinner will be Mike Elston, the associate head football coach at Notre Dame.
