NAPPANEE – Things got interesting for the NorthWood baseball team Wednesday night.

The host Panthers built a big lead early only to see Mishawaka rally to take the lead late.

In the end, the Panthers plated a pair of runs in their final at-bat to come away with a 9-8 non-conference win over the Cavemen.

NorthWood, which started its season with a 13-0 win over Westview Monday, improves to 2-0.

The Panthers scored six runs in the second inning and one more in the third frame to build a seemingly comfortable 7-1 lead. The Cavemen rallied to score seven times in the seventh inning to take an 8-7 lead before the hosts got the win in their final at-bat.

Hunter Warren led the offense for NorthWood with three hits and two runs scored.

Kyle Hauptli scored a pair of runs for the Panthers.

Matt Dutkowski drove in a pair of runs. He also notched the pitching win, going five innings and allowing just one unearned run with six strikeouts and two walks.

NorthWood is off until playing at West Noble on April 9.
