
EMMA – After having its first two track meets of the season called off, Wawasee finally got in a dual Thursday in taking on Westview. The girls from Syracuse defeated the girls from Emma 78-50 while the boys from greater Topeka topped the northeastern Kosciusko County dwellers 67-65.
The Wawasee girls had several multiple winners to showcase its initial step into the 2018 calendar. Hannah-Marie Lamle won three events to lead her team, taking both the 100 hurdles (17.10) and 300 hurdles (53.84) as well as the long jump (16-08.5). Sara Pritchard also had a good day in the field, taking both throws, going 110-02 in discus and 31-10 in shot put for the double win. Kenzie Smith also took a double, running 2:40.65 in the 800 and 6:06.50 in the 1600.
Smith, Ella Beezley, Emma Ebright and Nadia Palacios claimed the 4×800 relay at 11:11.12 and Beezley won the two-mile at 13:51. Wawasee’s 4×100 relay team of Casey Schroeder, Aiyana Perales, Katie Haines and Faith Tipping won at 57.06 and Jada Parzygnot cleared 8-6 for the pole vault win.
Keyan Peete and Elisha Tipping had good openers for Wawasee on the boys side. Peete won high jump at 5-6 and helped the 4×100 and 4×400 relays to wins. Peete, LaShaun Morris, Chris Pena and Eric Yankosky ran a 47.40 and Peete, Yankosky, Luke Griner and Mark Miller finished the night at 3:45.23. Tipping took the throws double with a 44-3.5 in shot and 134-10 in discus.
Griner won the 800 run at 2:05.35 and Thomas Conley the mile at 4:58.30.
Wawasee will compete again next Thursday at West Noble.
