Outgoing Whitko Superintendent Steve Clason

LARWILL — Whitko Superintendent Steve Clason announced his retirement at the monthly meeting of the Whitko School Corporation Board of Trustees Monday night, March 19. The retirement is effective June 30.

“It has been an amazing time for me to be graced to serve Whitko as superintendent,” he told the board. “For those that don’t know me well, I can say God has a sense of humor. If you don’t know it, you should find out. The month before I was hired to be superintendent I had told a board member I’d never do that job. Note to self – don’t do that. Then, God led me to Whitko. I had always told people even at the age of 55 that I was not sure what I was going to do when I grew up. Once I came here, it was clear this was what God had prepared me for.”

Clason said he had enjoyed serving the students and staff at Whitko for the past 10 years and said he would “always be a Wildcat.

“I am at the point in my life that I have other interests and demands pulling me away from my first love, education. Whitko and its amazing people will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I will continue to be part of this amazing community, but as a patron, not employee. Go Cats.”

Clason said his future plans include restoring an old car, truck and tractor, fishing, day trips with his wife, and “yes likely some consulting and continued efforts in education once I adjust to the retirement schedule. After 40 years in K-12 education, I look forward to being that guy that can mentor and lead others in whatever roll God sees fit.”
