
BOURBON – The Triton girls basketball team pitched a second-quarter shutout Friday night.
The Trojans held visiting Culver scoreless in the second period of play en route to a dominating 52-37 victory in Northern State Conference action.
The Class 1-A No. 10 Trojans outscored the Cavaliers 19-0 in the pivotal second stanza frame to easily win the battle of previously unbeatens in league play. Triton, which led 26-7 at halftime and 41-19 after three quarters, improves to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in NSC action. Culver, which received votes in this week’s Class 1-A poll, drops to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Senior Shana Anderson led the way to victory with 16 points for coach Adam Heckaman’s squad. The Trojans have now won three in a row since back-to-back losses at home to Class 4-A No. 10 and undefeated Warsaw and Class 1-A No. 2 Oregon-Davis.

Taylor Hatfield scored 11 points and Breanna Lemler added 10 for Triton in a well-balanced offensive attack. Kylie Mason netted eight points for the winners.
Donna Zehner led Culver with 10 points.
Both Triton and Culver will play in the annual Bi-County Tournament this coming week. Triton will host Argos and Culver entertains Bremen in first-round contests Tuesday night. Both games will begin at 6:30 p.m. with boys first-round games to follow. The girls semifinal games are Thursday at LaVille High School with the title game on Jan. 19, also at LaVille.
