PIERCETON — A Pierceton man is being charged with several crimes following an incident that occurred Feb. 8.

Dennis Dean Shumaker, 56, 3949 E. CR 100S, Pierceton, is being charged with strangulation, a level 6 felony and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.

According to police, Shumaker is accused of stomping, kicking and choking a female victim before being hit in the head with a soup bowl. According to the police report, Shumaker told police he only responded with force after having been hit with a bowl first.

Shumaker was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail March 7 on $5,250 bond.
