McKinley Tabbed For Workout; Litwiller Jr. All-Star
INDIANAPOLIS — A handful of area seniors, including Northridge star Brooke McKinley, have been invited to the Top 60 Workout for girls basketball players.
The 37th annual event, sponsored by Hoosier Basketball Magazine, is set for Sunday at Heritage Christian High School in Indianapolis.
The Top 60 were selected from approximately 1,400 senior players statewide. Statistical evaluation, game observation and statewide research were conducted during the season and throughout the state tournament to determine who would be invited.
Half of the Top 60 girls, primarily from northern and southern Indiana, will participate in the first session (1:00-3:00 pm EST). The remaining players, primarily from central Indiana, will compete during the second session (3:30-5:30 pm EST).
The Top 60 Senior Workout includes the state’s top two leading scorers – Daijah Smith, Gary Lighthouse CPA (28.7 ppg) and Leigha Brown, DeKalb (28). Four other attendees are among the state’s top scoring leaders – Lucy Carrigan, Rising Sun (24.3 ppg), Audrey Reed, Sheridian (23.9), Cameron Cardenas, Beech Grove (22.5) and Kendall Fisher, Tindley (22.5).
McKinley, who will play at Grand Valley State University, led the Raiders to a third straight NLC title this season. Northridge went 7-0 in league play for the third straight year. McKinley finished her prep career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,159 career points.
Also invited to the Top 60 Workout are the Penn duo of Tia Chambers and Sara Doi. The pair led the Kingsmen to Class 4-A sectional and regional titles. Also invited are Meghan Urbanski of Mishawaka Marian, Asia Strong of South Bend Riley and Diamond Adams of South Bend Washington.
Seven-time state champion coach Rick Risinger (Heritage Christian) will direct both sessions. Four other Indiana girls’ high school coaches from the IBCA have been invited to join the 2018 Top 60 staff – Stephan Hamaker (Frankton), Kevin Merriweather (Tindley), Kristin Raker (Beech Grove) and Jason Simpson (Greensburg).
Both sessions are open to the public for admission fee of $8 ($5 for students).
Northridge junior standout Morgan Litwiller was also named as a Junior All-Star. Litwiller averaged 17 points-per-game and has committed to play at Eastern Illinois.
Litwiller will be part of the North Group of Junior All-Stars. Also on the North team are Riley Ott of LaPorte, Sydney Freeman of Class 2-A state champion Central Noble, Tai-Yanea Jackson of East Chicago Central and the duo of Emma Nolan and Sophia Nolan of Class 1-A state champion Michigan City Marquette Catholic.
