SYRACUSE — Senior Amy Beer and junior Ben Meeks, Wawasee High School choir students, earned gold medals at the Indiana State School Music Association state contest Saturday, Feb. 17, at Perry Meridian High and Middle schools in Indianapolis.

Beer performed a piano solo “Arabesque No. 1” by Claude Debussy. Meeks performed a vocal solo of the German song “Ich liebe dich.”

During the competition students were evaluated on their individual performances and did not compete against other students. In order to qualify for the state competition, a gold medal must be earned at the district competition.

It is the third year in a row a Wawasee student has earned a gold medal at the ISSMA state competition.
