
SYRACUSE – Wawasee closed out the Northern Lakes Conference boys basketball schedule and bid adieu to its seniors in style Saturday night, defeating Goshen 51-48 in overtime.
Wawasee trailed by three in the final minute of regulation, but managed to tie the 41 to force overtime. In the extra period, Wawasee went 6-12 from the free throw line to secure its second NLC win.
The Warriors had one of its best shooting nights of the season, going 19-28 overall from the floor (68 percent), getting a 7-10 performance from Trevon Coleman, who finished with a team-high 17 points. Coleman added nine rebounds and two assists.
Jacob Hand added nine of his 11 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, Hand also delivering four assists and two steals, and Cayden Wegener hit both of his three-point attempts and both of his free throw attempts to give Wawasee a key eight points.
Goshen’s Will Line, one of the top players in the conference this season, was held to 11 points on 4-13 shooting. Porter Revoir picked up the slack for the RedHawks, doubling his season average with 12 points and added seven boards and two steals. Bryant Robinson continued his solid play with 11 points and six boards.
Goshen won the JV game 55-51, stats were not provided.
Wawasee (5-13, 2-5 NLC) will visit Class 2-A No. 2 Westview on Tuesday and then travel to Mishawaka Wednesday for a make-up game that was supposed to have been played Saturday, but was bumped for the Goshen game, which was snowed up Friday evening.
