PLYMOUTH – A pair of area heavyweights in Class 3-A clashed Saturday night as Tippecanoe Valley paid a visit to Plymouth.

The Pilgrims proved too much for the Vikings in the non-conference contest as the hosts posted a 63-46 win.

Mack Mercer, Plymouth’s 6-8 junior center, tallied a game-high 19 points as the Pilgrims improved to 9-1 on the season. Plymouth has won four in a row since a 69-63 overtime loss to NLC foe NorthWood.

Both the Pilgrims and the Vikings received votes in this week’s Class 3-A AP poll.

Plymouth led 12-6 after the opening period and 25-16 at halftime en route to the win.

Nick Kindig scored 17 points to lead Valley. The Vikings, who won easily at home over Northfield Friday night, saw their nine-game winning streak snapped to drop to 9-2.

Logan Britton scored 11 points, Robby Groom seven and Tanner Andrews six for Valley.

Joe Knapp tallied 18 points, David Lee 13 and Tom Felke 11 for a balanced Plymouth offense.

Tippecanoe Valley plays at TRC foe Rochester and Plymouth travels to NLC opponent Concord Friday night.
