
Donald Lee “Don” Harris, 85, Leesburg, passed away at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse. He was born on Jan. 29, 1933, in Anderson to Omer Vernon and Mabel (Morehead) Harris.
He graduated in 1951 from Anderson High School, received his B.S. Degree in 1961 from Purdue University in West Lafayette and received his Master’s Degree from Ball State in Muncie. He was a United States Army veteran and was married on Feb. 1, 1958, in Anderson to Gayle Kern who survives. He moved to the Leesburg area in 1965 from Liberty.
He taught vocational agriculture and science in Liberty for the Union County School Corporation for six years, formerly worked for Federal Land Bank in Louisville, Ky. and was the former owner and operator of Harris Concrete in Pierceton for 20+ years. He was a member of North Webster Church of God, Masonic Lodge in Cromwell, Kosciusko County Shriners, Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne, and American Legion Post #253 in North Webster.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter: LeAnn Harris, Leesburg; three sons: O.V. Harris, Pierceton; Tim (Minona) Harris, Warsaw; and Todd (Kristene) Harris, Warsaw; one granddaughter; one step granddaughter; one step grandson; and two step great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Nora Harris, Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Delores Calvert, Madelyn Hamm, and Barbara Dew, and brother: Harold Harris.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.. on Monday, Feb. 5 at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 & CR 500N, North Webster. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Judy officiating. Military services will be performed by the North Webster American Legion. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw.
