WCS Cancellation, Delay Reminders

WARSAW — With the potential for inclement weather over the next few days in the forecast, Warsaw Community Schools would like to remind parents of a few key information pieces for snow delays and closures.

Should WCS decide it is necessary to close school, cancellation make-up days will work similar to last year’s model. WCS will continue to evaluate the school year calendar as weather-based cancellation days need to be used. Should it be determined it is in the best interest of students, staff and the community, WCS will utilize eLearning Days to assist making up cancellations that cannot be made up during a built-in calendar make-up date. This provides an opportunity to not add additional days to the end of the school year.

In the event an eLearning Day is announced, students will be able to utilize their devices to receive instruction on a Saturday. Assignments given on these days are not due until the Thursday following the eLearning Day.

As a note, WCS does not have any plans currently to schedule a same-day eLearning Day on an inclement weather cancellation day.

Teachers all across the district are making great strides in moving courses to a digital delivery model using tools such as Canvas, Google Apps for Education and TechSmith Relay. However, until we can ensure that all classes in grades K-12 can be ready for a same-day eLearning Day and appropriate accommodations have been prepared for our neediest students, we will not be prepared to consider moving to the same-day eLearning Day model for inclement weather cancellation days.
