INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — The Indianapolis Zoo is celebrating a national title thanks to readers across the country.

A USA Today poll for the best “zoo lights” in the country has Indianapolis at no. 5 with “Christmas at the Zoo.”

It’s an attraction dating back to 1957. In fact, the Indianapolis Zoo was the first zoo in the nation to hold a holiday light event. All holiday lights at the Indianapolis Zoo are LED.

Despite the history, there is still plenty that is new for 2017, like Santa’s Village which includes:

  • Santa’s Study — visits with Santa
  • Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen — visits with Mrs. Claus and cookie decorating
  • Santa’s Barn — visits with live reindeer
  • The Snowflakery mirror maze — a fun area to navigate with wintry scenes
  • Peppermint Twist beverage hut
  • Season’s Gifting hut
  • Mistletoe Kisses Gazebo

Animals like seals, sea lions, brown bears, red pandas, and tigers will also be out for visits.

Christmas at the Zoo runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weeknights and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.

Ticket prices vary by projected attendance, and generally range from $13–$16 for adults, and $10–$12 for children. For ticket information click here.

You can receive $1 off admission for up to four people if you bring a hat, scarf or glove donation.
