Debris is all that remains of what once was a metal barn that housed hogs.

SYRACUSE — A metal barn, that can house 2,400 head of hogs, was destroyed by fire late Tuesday evening, Dec. 5. The fire was located at 72193 CR 133, Syracuse, and the barn reportedly owned by Christ Miller.

According to Miller, the hogs had been shipped out at Thanksgiving. Outside of the structure, the only other loss was feed. No cause has been reported.

Turkey Creek Fire Territory was called at 8:59 p.m. to assist Benton Township Fire Department with the fire. Turkey Creek Fire Chief Mickey Scott reported Cromwell, North Webster, Clinton, New Paris and Ligonier fire departments were called in to assist the two agencies with tankers and/or manpower. High winds added fuel to the fire, however, firefighters quickly had the fire under control. No other buildings at that location were lost or damaged.

Tankers were refilled at the hydrant at Shopko, North Indiana Avenue, Syracuse. Milford and North Webster fire departments were put on standby for Turkey Creek Fire Territory.
