WARSAW — On Saturday morning, Dec. 2, the Warsaw Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on US 30.  During the attempt to stop the vehicle, the silver Mitsubishi turned southbound onto North Parker Street and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle made a series of turns onto East Center Street, Robmar Drive and Argonne Road, before continuing northbound on North Parker Street, headed back to US 30. The vehicle turned westbound onto US 30 in the eastbound lane of travel. The vehicle drove through the median and continued westbound on US 30 with speeds reaching 120 miles per hour.

When the pursuit reached CR 350W, the vehicle drove into the median and began driving eastbound in the east lane of travel of US 30.  The vehicle turned southbound onto CR 350W and continued at a high rate of speed until the intersection of CR 350W and Old Road 30 where the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle crashed into an information pavilion, destroying it, and then hit a utility pole, breaking it in half. The vehicle then spun and rolled, landing on the driver side.

Warsaw Fire extricated the driver, William Sebastian Gonzalez, 43, of Wasco, Calif. The driver was unresponsive and Lutheran Air was called to the scene. Gonzalez was transported to Lutheran Fort Wayne with unknown injuries. The Indiana State Police was contacted to work the crash reconstruction and OWI investigation.

William Sebastian Gonzalez has been charged with resisting law enforcement with use of vehicle, level 6 felony, and reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor.  Gonzalez was also cited for speed and disregarding several traffic control signals.

Warsaw Police were assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police.
