Webster Reviews Land Lease
North Webster Town Council received three proposals during their meeting Dec. 18 for a cash renting lease on 20 acres of land north of North Webster, which is owned by the town. Council members decided to table a decision on the lease until their end of the year meeting to have time to go through the proposals.
The property is used by the town to spread leaves and sludge on, and a renter farms the land.
Matt Roberts with J & M Roberts Farms, which is one of the interested parties in the lease, introduced himself at the meeting. He noted J & M Roberts Farms had additional acres in the area to spread leaves and sludge on, too, including 6 acres adjoining the town ground.
Also during the meeting, police officer Candy Smythe went over the North Webster Police Department’s November report noting not too much was going on. The department saw 227 calls of service during November.
A new pump is needed at lift station 9, which is located on Linda Lane. Currently, the Street, Water and Sewer Department is getting prices to replace it. The department additionally installed a new grinder pump in the area of the American Legion.
Council members also signed an interlocal agreement for terminal services; the agreement is between Kosciusko County and the town. The agreement will cost around $1,000 a year, which is much less than the original estimate of $3,000 to $5,000.
An end of the year meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Dec. 27 at town hall. The next regular meeting will be held Jan. 15, 2013.
