Hazel Richard Vanlaningham, 88, Milford, passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at his home. He was born on Nov. 1, 1929 in Marengo to Charles Norman and Lillian Mae (Vance) Vanlaningham.

He attended Hardinsburg Schools in Hardinsburg and served in the Indiana National Guard. He was married on Jan. 3, 1949 in Delphi to Florence H. “Helen” Starbuck who survives and moved to Milford 66 years ago from southern Indiana. He was a Carpenter and owner and operator of Van’s Cabinet Shop in Milford for 35+ years.

He was a member of the Syracuse Church of God and former member of Bethel Brethren Church of Milford.

He is survived by his wife, his daughter, Cheryl (Dan) Robinson, Warsaw; three sons: Rick (Sandy) Vanlanigham, Columbia City; Michael Vanlaningham, Warsaw; and Steve (Susan) Vanlaningham, Milford; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Amy Vanlaningham and Karen Sue Vanlaningham, four sisters, Mary Magill, Ruby Richardson, Delsie Stroud, and Dorothy Bundy, five brothers, Bruce, Charles, Howard, Robert, and Glen Vanlaningham, and half-brother – Kenneth Elliott.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral Services will follow at 2p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home with Rick Vanlaningham officiating. Burial will take place at the Milford Cemetery.
