David Lee Sommers, Warsaw, passed away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne, at the age of 76.

He was born June 18, 1941 in Portland to David W. Sommers and Mattie Marie (Henry) Sommers. On June 15, 1962 he was married to Linda Lou (Updike) Sommers, who survives in Warsaw.
David graduated from Dunkirk High School in Dunkirk in 1960. He worked at Armstrong Glass Factory in Dunkirk, and at Westinghouse in Muncie. David was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 35 years moving to Warsaw in 1982. He worked at DePuy in Warsaw until his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed fishing, coaching little league, was car racing enthusiast, even horse racing. At Christmas he loved to play Santa Claus. He will be missed by family and friends.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Linda Lou Sommers, Warsaw; three sons: Anthony (wife Amy) Sommers, Warsaw; Dirk (wife Kristine) Sommers, Warsaw; John Sommers, Claypool; and his daughter: Danielle Sommers, Niagra Falls, New York. David also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Margaret.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
His funeral mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 408 W. Catholic Street, Pierceton IN 46562 and celebrated by Reverend Father Chuck Herman. Burial will follow with a graveside service at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Pierceton.
