SYRACUSE — A puppy died in an early morning house fire today, Friday, Nov. 3, at 8 EMS D18A Lane, Syracuse. The cause remains under investigation.

Turkey Creek Fire Territory responded to a report of a structure fire at a neighbor’s house with the call originating from 7 EMS D18A Lane at 6:46 a.m.

Upon the arrival of the first fire personnel, smoke was visible from some of the windows and in the soffit area around the structure at 8 EMS D18A Lane with no flames visible from the exterior of the structure. The caller reported to the fire crews flames were visible inside of the structure prior to fire department arrival and an individual was possibly inside of the structure.

Smoke damage to two windows in the home is all that is noticeable from the exterior.

A search of the structure revealed there was no one inside of the structure and the remaining embers from a fire inside of the structure were quickly extinguished. There was a puppy that was found and had perished as a result of the incident.

Mutual aid with manpower and tankers was received from both the Milford Fire Department and the North Webster Fire Department.

The fire resulted in an estimated $20,000 in damages to the structure and contents. The owner of the property is Sherwood Peters.

American Red Cross assisted the occupants at the scene with temporary living arrangements.

There were no injuries to firefighters and fire crews cleared the scene at 8:30 a.m.
