Cheryll Ross
Cheryll Ross, Glenwood, Iowa, died Oct. 17, 2017, at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, Neb.
Cheryll was born Nov. 2, 1945, to William and Margaret Bunn in Newton, Iowa. On Sept. 11, 1965, in Rock Island, Ill., she married Patrick Ross, who preceded her in death, May 9. 2017.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas, Claypool; and Timothy and spouse Ellen, Council Bluffs, Iowa; one daughter, Theresa, Omaha, Neb.; one brother, Ed Bunn, Colfax, Iowa; three sisters-in-law: Sarah “Sally” Cassady, East Lansing, Mich.; Barbara “Sue” Wilkinson, Huntsville, Ala.; and Gerry Ross, Montezuma, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Raphael “Joe,” Afton, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends. She greatly loved her four grandchildren, Maxton, Meg, Andrew and Aaron.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother, James Bunn; brothers-in-law Michael Ross, Donald Cassady and Dick Wilkinson; sister-in-law Myrna Bunn; and daughter-in-law Heather Ross.
Cheryll was an avid follower of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and extracurricular activities and was always present at their events. She loved to travel with her husband and Pat and their friends and especially loved the ocean. She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She loved the political process and was honored to be a part of it.
Cheryll graduated form Newton High School in Newton, Iowa. She worked at several banks and for Glenwood Community Schools before being elected as Mills County Auditor in 1988 and winning re-election two more times. In 1999 she became deputy auditor for Pottawattamie County, retiring in 2007.
Living most of her adult life in Mills County, Cheryll’s love of helping others led her to be involved in numerous community groups including director of the Pottawattamie County Red Cross, Holy Rosary Catholic Church Rosary Altar Society, Glenwood Community High School Ram Booster Club, director and volunteer at the Mills County Storehouse.
Visitation will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Glenwood, Iowa Oct. 22, from 3-5 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 23 at Holy Rosary Church. Interment will be private.
