Boys Soccer
Plymouth’s 2-1 win over Wawasee Thursday gave the Pilgrims the outright Northern Lakes Conference boys soccer title.
Austin Arriaga’s gamewinner moved Plymouth to 5-0-2 in the NLC, a half point ahead of Goshen’s 6-1 mark.
Camden Cox had Wawasee’s lone goal, assisted by Chris Pena. Dillon Drake made 10 saves for the Warriors in what coach Jordan Sharp noted as his best game between the pipes.
“The guys stepped up and played awesome,” Sharp said of his club, which settles at 5-7-3 overall but 0-7 in the NLC. “Excited to carry this momentum into postseason play against Lakeland.”
The Warriors and the Lakers meet Monday in the second game of opening night of the Wawasee Sectional. The game is scheduled for approximately 7 p.m.
The Plymouth JV defeated Wawasee 4-0.
Volleyball
Wawasee didn’t have much success in its trip to Elkhart, losing at all three levels to the Chargers.
The varsity (4-22, 0-6 NLC) lost 25-9, 25-10, 25-14 in a relatively quick match. Peyton Rookstool had 12 digs in the loss.
The Elkhart JV stormed past Wawasee 25-15, 25-6, sending Wawasee to its ninth loss in 19 games.
Memorial handed Wawasee a rare freshman loss, 25-22, 25-16. For the Lady Warriors (17-3), Abby Morehead had five digs, Emma Dippon a pair of kills and blocks, Morgan Heche a pair of aces, Bailey Mayhew had two blocks and Vivian Wiggs had two assists.
Wawasee will take part in Saturday’s Dunes Tournament hosted by Warsaw.
