Warsaw SportsGirls Soccer

Delaney Taylor proved to be the hero for the Warsaw girls soccer team Tuesday night.

Taylor delivered a pair of second-half goals, including the game winner in the final minute, as the Tigers rallied to edge host Argos 3-2.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead before Abby Steffensmeier tied the contest in the opening half for Warsaw. Argos led 2-1 at halftime after scoring on a free kick with just three seconds left before intermission.

Taylor then took care of the scoring in the final half with her two goals to give the Tigers a tough win. Her game winner came with just 34 seconds left in the contest.

The duo of Audrey Grimm and Brenna Buhrt each had an assist for Warsaw, which improves to 10-4-2 on the season with the non-conference win. Argos drops to 10-5-1 on the season.

“I’m glad we were able to get a win tonight,” said Warsaw coach Jon Hoover.  “We started a little slow and Argos took advantage.  I am extremely proud of how our team battled in the second half.  They were determined to pull together and get the job done.  Some wins are harder than others, and tonight was a perfect example of that.  Anytime you can still get a win when you aren’t at the top of your game, you have to be pleased.”

Warsaw won the junior varsity match 2-1. Sarah O’cock and Katlynn Brower each had a goal for the Tigers, who improve to 5-6-1.

Warsaw will host Northridge Thursday night in its final conference match. The showdown is for the NLC title as the Tigers are 5-1 in league play and the Raiders sit at 5-0-1.
