Warsaw Sports Wrap: Sept. 18
Girls Soccer
A huge second half carried the Warsaw girls soccer team to a 9-1 win over Fort Wayne Snider.
The Tigers tallied seven goals in the final half to come away with the dominating non-conference road win.
The duo of Delaney Taylor and Brenna Buhrt each booted home three goals to pace the high-powered offense for Warsaw in the win.
Abby Steffensmeier had two goals and Grace Scholl one for the Tigers. Steffensmeier also had three assists, while Anna Grill had two. Both Taylor and Buhrt each added one assist.
“While I am really happy with the win, I’m even happier with the way our team moved with and without the ball,” said Warsaw coach Jon Hoover. “Our forwards were very dynamic with their runs in the second half. Delaney Taylor, Abby Steffensmeier, and Brenna Buhrt were fantastic finding space around each other. I’m excited to see how we respond Wednesday against a strong Culver Academies squad.”
The Warsaw varsity improves to 8-4-1 overall on the season.
The Warsaw junior varsity notched a 3-0 win. Sarah O’cock had two goals and Tobi Avey one as the JV squad improved to 4-5-1.
Warsaw plays at Culver Academy on Wednesday night.
Boys Tennis
The Warsaw boys tennis team dropped a 4-1 conference final to Concord.
The Tigers’ lone win in the NLC regular-season finale came on the No. 1 doubles court. The team of Bailey Buhrt and Spencer Britton rallied for a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-3 win.
Concord won in straight sets on the four other courts to finish unbeaten at a perfect 7-0 in NLC play.
Will Boyer topped Colton Lind 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles play.
Nate Slabaugh posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kyler Bartol at No. 2 singles and Freddy Buckingham beat Caleb Williams 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles action.
The No. 2 doubles team of Grant Lucchese and Drew McDouglen topped Nolan Knight and Reuben Williams 6-4, 6-4.
Concord won the junior varsity match 6-4. Winning for Warsaw were Brandon Chan and Harrison Lewis in singles play and the doubles teams of Brian Elliott and Nick Marsh and Jake Kaufman and Michael Ray.
Warsaw drops to 6-6 overall and finishes at 4-3 in NLC play.
The Tigers honored their six seniors, Lind, Bartol, Buhrt, Chan, Marsh and Kaufman, Monday night.
Warsaw and Concord will both be in action Wednesday at the NLC Tournament at Concord. The tourney continues Thursday at Concord with the finals on Saturday at Plymouth.
Lakeview Volleyball
The Lakeview Middle School 8th grad volleyball team beat Lakeland Christian Academy 25-9, 25-11.
Kylie Smith had 13 aces and three kills to pace the winners. Abbie Porter had 11 assists and Anna Gustafson had two aces and three kills. Cora West had five kills and two aces and Sara Peugh a kill and Tori Jones an ace.
The Lakeview 7th grade team beat LCA 25-7, 25-6.
Madi Desenberg had five aces and a kill for the winners. Yareli Bautista had four aces and Lauren Eastwood three aces and two kills for the team, which is now 12-1.
