FORT WAYNE – Over 150 people took part in the Walk For Animals and Furry Scurry 5K in Fort Wayne. The event supports Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control, which educates and enlightens about animal abuse and neglect.

The event, which took place at Franke Park, saw Brian Shepherd of Ligonier win the 5K with a time of 17:47, almost a full two minutes faster than runner-up Kyle Baker of Fort Wayne at 19:36. Caleb Biernat of Angola was third with a time of 22:35.

Winning the female side of the 5K was Jessica Elliott of Fort Wayne. Her time of 23:12 not only led all the ladies, but was fourth overall with the men. Venita Lawyer was sixth overall and the second female home at 24:32, and Amy Jo Sites, also of Fort Wayne, was the third female at 24:47, good for seventh overall.
