Warsaw SportsVolleyball

The Warsaw volleyball team came up with a fourth-place finish Saturday in the Michigan City Tournament.

The Tigers beat Concord 25-17, 25-22 and Valparaiso 25-15, 25-23 in pool play. Fort Wayne Concordia topped Warsaw 25-14, 15-25, 15-9 in pool play.

Host Michigan City then beat the Tigers 25-22, 16-25, 19-17 in the third-place match.

Senior Lexie Day led the way for her team with 47 kills in their four matches. Day also had 38 digs and five aces in the tournament.

Erin Peugh led the defense with 60 digs and also had four aces and four assists.

Kacy Bragg totaled 106 assists on the day and had 25 digs and seven blocks.

Kennedy Lauck had 29 kills and a team-high 17 blocks. Katie Swanson had 22 kills and Hanna Leach 19. Betty Barnett had six blocks.

Warsaw is now 14-8 on the season. The Tigers host Carroll Tuesday night and NLC foe Wawasee Thursday night.

Boys Tennis

The Warsaw boys tennis junior varsity team placed fifth in the Goshen Tournament.

Host Goshen won the event with 18 points with Plymouth second with 17. Concord and NorthWood tied for third with 16 points each with Warsaw placing fifth with 14 points. Northridge was sixth with seven points with Elkhart Memorial seventh with five and Wawasee eighth with zero.

Warsaw hosts Concord for its final conference match Monday evening. The Northern Lakes Conference tourney then begins on Wednesday at Concord.

Cross Country

The Warsaw boys cross country team finished ninth in the New Prairie Invitational.

Lucas Howett led the way for the Tigers as he placed 16th overall in a time of 16:30.

Xavi Ramirez was next for Warsaw as he placed 35th overall in 16:56. Taylor Mills was 57th in 17:14 with Sam Lechlitnrt 87th in 17:46.

Justin Fleming was 88th in a time of 17:47 for the Tigers. Nathaniel Gottschalk was 100th in 17:55 and Eric Williamson 164th in 18:58.

Warsaw posted a team score of 279 to finish ninth among 34 teams in the Class AAA (Big School) Division. Valparaiso won the team title with a score of 87 and Westview was second at 96. Northridge was 12th with a 384 and Elkhart Memorial 13th with a 429.

Alec Fleming of Lowell won the boys race in Class AAA in a time of 15:45.5.

The Warsaw boys were eighth out of 28 teams in the Frosh-Sophomore Division. Warsaw had a team score of 221. Valparaiso won the team title with a score of 43.

Hunter Thompson led the Tigers as he finished 11th overall in 17:49.

Jacob Kissling was 37th for Warsaw, followed  by Austin Fleming (512t), Luke Howard (55th), Nick Bazzoni (67th), Tanner Stiver (68th) and Marston Norris (100th).

Anthony Bass was 18th for Warsaw in the Reserve Race. Also competing in the race for the Tigers were Jack Horoho, Isaac Mitchell, Gary Keys, Kennis Dye, Ryan Bonebrake, Jacob Denzer, Noah Marshall, Santos Zamarripa, Ethan Thompson, Ian Peloza, Jacob Dachenaus, Jorge Alvarez, Chase Byron, Nathaniel Taylor, Keller Swartzentruber, Victor Mejia, Timothy Farmer, Tyler Barber, Andrew Furey and Alejandro Cervantes.

Warsaw closes out conference action versus Plymouth and Wawasee Tuesday at the Pretty Lake Golf Club in Plymouth. The NLC Meet is set for Saturday, Sept. 30 at Ox Bow Park.

The Tigers, who were ranked No. 17 in the last coaches’ poll, are 5-0 in league action.

The Warsaw girls team was 13th in the 32 teams in the Class AAA Division. The Tigers had a team score of 36.

No. 7 Valparaiso won the Class AAA team title with a score of 97. No. 18 Penn was second at 153 with Northridge ninth at 226.

Mia Beckham led the way for Warsaw as she placed 10th overall in a time of 19:02.2.

Margo Hornacker of Oak Hill won the race in a time of 18:12.2.

Morgan Dyer of Elkhart Memorial was fourth overall in a time of 18:32.8.

The massive New Prairie event, which celebrated its 50th running Saturday, attracted some 2,700 runners from 105 schools in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois.

The Warsaw ladies also close out conference regular-season action Tuesday versus host Plymouth and Wawasee.

Boys Soccer

The Warsaw boys soccer team dropped a 1-0 final to Elkhart Central.

The varsity Tigers, who are now 8-4-2, will host Goshen in a conference game Thursday night.

The Warsaw junior varsity team beat Northridge and Plymouth to win the Goshen JV Tournament.

The JV Tigers beat Northridge 2-0 on goals by Dayne Koontz and Aden Wade. Koontz scored on a penalty kick and Wade off a corner from Ethan Grille.

The Tigers then played Plymouth in the title match. Adam Brown scored off a corner from Grille and Jose Lara had a goal, also assisted by Grille. The finale went to penalty kicks after being tied 2-2 at the end of regulation play. Brown booted in the game winner and Ricardo Saldivas stopped the eighth Plymouth PK to give Warsaw the championship.

The Warsaw JV team improves to 7-3-1 and will host Goshen Thursday night.

The Warsaw C team played to a 0-0 deadlock versus the Central JV squad. The C team, which is 2-3-1, will play at CMA Tuesday night.

Lakeview Cross Country

The Lakeview Middle School cross country teams competed in the West Noble Invitational.

The girls team placed 17th out of 32 teams in the event.

Rylee Burns led the way for the Lakeview ladies by placing 21st overall in a time of 12:34.

Mikayla Mimmaugh was next for Lakeview in 27th place in 12:36. Kiersten Parker was 68th, followed by Kylie Werensly (162nd), Lizzy Miner (184th), Karissa Brath (192nd) and Gracie Willing (195th).

The Lakeview boys team placed 16th out of 32 teams.

Edward Robison led the way as he was 37th overall in a time of 11:24.

Levi Perry was next in 54th place, followed by teammates David Howard (67th), Garrett Hall (106th), Bryce Duncan (153rd), Ricardo Verduzco (162nd) and Carter Krefeld (187th).

Carlos Velaquez was 32nd overall in the Boys Reserve Race for Lakeview and Rachel Doyle placed 132nd in the Girls Reserve Race.
