NorthWood Sports Wrap: Sept. 7
Boys Soccer
The NorthWood boys soccer team outscored Wawasee by a 5-3 final.
The Panthers scored three times in the final half to snap a 2-2 tie en route to the Northern Lakes Conference win in Nappanee.
Landon Parker led the way for the winners with three goals.
Ryan Edington had a pair of goals to lead Wawasee, which falls to 3-2-2 overall and 0-2 in the NLC.
NorthWood plays at Argos and Wawasee hosts Valparaiso, both on Saturday.
Volleyball
The NorthWood volleyball team showed its resilience for a big conference win.
The visiting Panthers rallied for a 2-1 deficit to edge past host Plymouth 3-2 in Northern Lakes Conference play.
NorthWood took the league affair 20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Kennedy Wiens continued her stellar senior season to pace the Panthers. Wiens slammed down a team-high 22 kills in the marathon match and also had 21 digs and three aces.
Haylee Pennington also turned in another fine performance with 20 kills for the winners.
Whitney Gessinger had 24 digs and three aces for the Panthers. Maddy Payne had five blocks and Courtney Lengacher 55 assists.
Plymouth won the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-24. Alea Minnich had four kills for NorthWood. Bre Wise also had four kills and Ali Knepp had four kills and 19 digs.
NorthWood plays in the Concord Invitational on Saturday.
Boys Tennis
The NorthWood boys tennis team doubled its pleasure for a league win.
The Panthers took wins on both doubles courts to edge past Goshen 3-2 in Northern Lakes Conference play.
The No. 2 doubles team of Trevor Klotz and Trajan Schwartz came up with a 6-2, 4-6., 6-1 win for the Panthers.
NorthWood also took the No. 1 doubles match as Jared Hoffman and Brant Mast won 6-4, 6-3.
Wes Troyer picked up a win at No. 1 singles for the Panthers by topping Wes Beck 7-5, 6-3.
Goshen won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles play. Simon Myers beat Landon Holland 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 and Ryan Harmelink outlasted Jack Wysong 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) at No. 3 play.
The NorthWood varsity improves to 6-3 overall and goes to 3-1 in the NLC.
Winners in junior varsity play for the Panthers were Ben Vincent, Dawson Bley and the doubles team of Zach Parisi and Nate Clickovich.
NorthWood plays at Bethany Christian Friday evening.
