Girls Golf

Wawseee split its non-conference matchup Tuesday with Elkhart Central and Fairfield. The Blue Blazers shot a 191 to lead the round, the Warriors in at 193 and Fairfield bringing in a 234 at Maxwelton Golf Club.

Wawasee coach Steve Coverstone continued to tinker with his lineup, and had Belle Brunner lead the team with a 46 from the one spot. Jadison Rostochak finished at 48, Valerie Haessig one back at 49, Lesley Tayagua a 50 and Tate Cowan a 53.

Central was led by Brooke Watson’s 44, followed by Lili Eash at 48, Katey Gaff at 49 and Kellie Sauserman at 50.

Fairfield had Jalee Nunemaker lead its cause with a 50, then Hannah Dervin at 58, Chloe Dell at 60, Zahra Unger at 66 and Katie Lashley at 86.

“It is always tough to lose by a couple shots, but we scored pretty well with three girls in the 40s,” said Coverstone.

Wawasee (10-6) concludes its regular season Thursday at Fremont ahead of the Northern Lakes Conference tourney Saturday in Plymouth.

Boys Tennis

Wawasee got a court, but not the three needed to beat Goshen in a 4-1 loss in the Maple City.

Dylan Staley and Brady Robinson were paired together at No. 1 doubles and found a victory in a comeback 7-5, 6-2 result against Ben Bontrager-Singer and Diego Torres.

All of the remaining courts were Goshen cruisers. The RedHawks lost just three games in its three singles wins by Wes Beck, Simon Myers and Ryan Harmelink against Zach Leedy, Jacob Krugman and Collin Rhodes. At No. 2 doubles, Drake Crowder and Tony Le rolled 6-2, 6-0 over Jake Cowan and Evan Richey.

Goshen’s Austin Peeler beat Clayton Firestone in the lone JV matchup 8-2.

Wawasee (3-8, 0-3 NLC) will host Northridge Thursday in another conference matchup.

Volleyball

Wawasee rallied for a 2-1 win in freshman volleyball against visiting East Noble.

After running out to a 25-11 win in game one, Wawasee struggled to build any runs in a 25-22 loss in game two. The Lady Warriors reversed trend in game three, taking an 11-3 lead in game three before closing out East Noble 15-9.

Morgan Heche paced the defense with 11 digs while Corin Nyce and Catherine Ondrla combined for 14 assists. Delaney Hare added six kills and Emma Dippon chipped in four kills and a pair of aces.

Wawasee stays unbeaten at 7-0.
