Katheryn M. Hatten, 92, South Bend, formerly of Culver, passed away on Sept. 2, 2017, in South Bend.

Katheryn was born on Dec. 22, 1924 in rural Green Township in Marshall County, one of five children born to L. J. and Mildred E. (Quivey) Gibbons. After graduating from Richland Center High School in 1942, she met her future husband, Harold E. Hatten, on a blind date with friends. They were married on Aug. 25, 1944 in Culver.  They raised their family while she and Harold worked at the Culver Citizen and then Indiana Press in Plymouth.

Katheryn was a lineotype operator.  She finished her career working at the University of Notre Dame in the Developmental Department.

Katheryn had been very active in her life.  She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Emily Jane Chapter of Eastern Star of Culver and the Plymouth Order of Eastern Star Lodge 103.

Katheryn is survived by her daughter, Barbara R. Howlett of South Bend; son, Paul (Anita) Hatten of Fremont; brother, Frank Gibbons of Texas; grandchildren, Jerry MacQuire of Orlando, Fla.; Chad (Rachel) Hatten of Naperville, Ill.; Cara (Steve) Strathmann of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; and Emma (Jeff) Dunfee of Indianapolis; and great grandchildren Delainey Hatten of Naperville, Ill.; and Kendall Hatten of Naperville, Ill.  She was
preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold, Roy and Robert Gibbons, and grandchildren Scott Alan and Michon Renee MacQuire.

A time to gather with the family will be held from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2 at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, and one hour prior to the service at the church.  Pastor Mary Albert will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 at Grace United Church of Christ, Culver.  Burial will follow at the Culver Masonic Cemetery.
