NorthWood SportsGirls Golf

The NorthWood girls golf team put another perfect league regular season in the books Thursday night.

The host Panthers closed out Northern Lakes Conference play with wins over Elkhart Memorial and Plymouth at McCormick Creek.

NorthWood shot a 181 to easily top the Crimson Chargers (214) and the Pilgrims (215) in the final conference match.

Coach Adam Yoder’s team has now finished 7-0 in league play for the sixth straight season and have won 43 straight conference matches dating back to 2011.

Madison Richner completed an outstanding league run for the Panthers in the pair of wins. The senior ace shot a two-over total of 38 to earn medalist honors. Richner was the medalist in all seven NLC matches for her team, joining sister Linnzie, who did it in 2015. Amy Thompson also accomplished the feat in 2009 for NorthWood.

Mackenzie Weaver had a 41 for the Panthers. Abby Slabaugh shot a 48, while McKenna Gall had a 54 and Abby Richner a 62 for the hosts, who are undefeated in dual matches.

Courtney King led Memorial with a 52. The Chargers are 7-7 overall and finish 2-5 in the NLC.

Jenna Nifong paced Plymouth with a 44. The Pilgrims sit at 3-9 overall and are 1-6 in league play.

The NorthWood junior varsity squad shot a 200. Hope Cripe led the way with a 43. Kirsten Schlock had a 51, while Kylee Gall shot 52 and Delaney Davis 54.

NorthWood will compete in the Culver Academy Invitational on Saturday at Swan Lake. The NLC Tournament is Sept. 9 at Pretty Lake in Plymouth.

 

Boys Tennis

The NorthWood boys tennis team rolled to a conference win at Elkhart Memorial.

The Panthers prevailed in straight sets on all five courts to earn the 5-0 win over the Crimson Chargers in the Northern Lakes Conference match.

Wes Troyer set the tone with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for the Panthers.

Landon Holland captured a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles and Jack Wysong completed the singles sweep by winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.

The Panthers were impressive on the doubles courts too. The duo of Brant Mast and Jared Hoffman won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 play. The team of Trevor Klotz and Trajan Schwartz posted a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 action.

The NorthWood junior varsity team won 4-3. Winners in singles play were Ben Vincent and Dawson Bley. Also winning were the doubles duos of Grant Topping and Chase Horner and Tyler Hahn and Brad Demitruk.

The NorthWood varsity improves to 4-3 overall and goes to 1-1 in the NLC.

NorthWood returns to action with a conference match versus Plymouth on Tuesday night.

Girls Soccer

The NorthWood girls soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with Northridge.

The host Panthers  picked up a late goal to tie the Raiders in the Northern Lakes Conference match.

Caroline Jenkins scored in the 76th minute for NorthWood to tie the game, which was scoreless in the first half.

Avery Bontrager picked up the assist on the lone goal for the Panthers.

NorthWood goalie Kira Robinson had nine saves in the match.

Northridge outshot the hosts 11-7 in the game.

NorthWood is now 5-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the NLC, while the Raiders sit at 3-2-1 and 1-0-1.

Northridge won the junior varsity match 1-0.

NorthWood returns to action Tuesday night with a league match at Concord.
