Wawasee continued to play well against some of the area’s bigger boys, drawing a tie, 2-2, at Culver Academy.
Chris Pena notched both goals for the Warriors, both assisted by Ryan Edington, and both strikes came in the first half.
“It was a physical and tough game,” said Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp. “We were tough and almost had the third goal to obtain victory.”
Sharp noted important performances in the match from Pena, Edington, Eric Yankosky, Chris Strombeck and keeper Dillon Drake.
Culver Academy claimed the JV game, 1-0, over Wawasee.
Wawasee (3-1-1) will host Huntington North Saturday morning.

Wawasee trimmed several strokes off its average, but ran into a hot Culver Academy squad Wednesday night. After shooting a 207 in its last outing, Wawasee posted a 187 but state-ranked CGA fired a 167 to claim the dual at Maxwelton.
The Academy, checking in at No. 17 in the latest IHSGCA poll, used a three-over 39 from Reese Wilson to pace the field. Amanda Kurteff had a 41, Lucy Pugh a 42, and Masako Hatano and Katie Shin both shooting 45.
Wawasee got another career-best from a newbie, with Ava Harker shooting a 46 as the No. 2 for the Lady Warriors. Belle Brunner would lead the team with a 44 and Jadison Rostochak had a 47, then Valerie Haessig shot a 50 for the Wawasee scoring cards. Zoe White had a 52 and Tate Cowan a 53.
“Very proud of the girls,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “They played their best score of the year against a very good team. Belle was her usual dependable self with a 44. Ava had a career best 46 and Valerie had a career best 50.”
Wawasee (8-5) will meet Goshen Thursday in a Northern Lakes Conference dual.
