Girls Soccer
The Warsaw girls soccer team picked up a big conference win on the road.
The Tigers got huge efforts from Brenna Buhrt and Anna Grill on the offensive side and from Chloe Snow in goal to blank host Goshen 2-0 for a key Northern Lakes Conference victory.
Buhrt, after a scoreless first half, tallied the game winner for the Tigers nine minutes into the final half. Delaney Taylor delivered an outstanding assist on the score.
Grill added an insurance goal 20 minutes later for the 2-0 final as Warsaw improved to 4-2-1 overall and moved to 3-0 in NLC play.
“Goshen played an excellent first half as both team had an even run of play,” noted Warsaw coach Jon Hoover. “Chloe Snow came up with a huge save in the first half to keep us in the game. After some halftime adjustments, we began to find success in the attacking third of the field.
“Brenna Buhrt and Anna Grill were outstanding tonight. I’m really proud of how our backline stayed composed under pressure. Brenna Shipley and Dayle Harvey caused problems offensively and defensively for Goshen, while Alex Koontz and Olivia Herman continued to turn away Goshen’s attackers. This backline has earned their way to three straight shutouts through their workrate and determination. They have become a difficult group to get by.”
Goshen won the junior varsity match 5-1. Carlie Hastings scored for Warsaw, which is now 0-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the NLC.
Warsaw hosts Homestead in a non-conference match Thursday night.
