Wawasee nearly pulled off a clean sweep Tuesday in South Whitley in a 5-0 win at Whitko.

Wawasee lost just two games the entire matchup, both in 6-1, 6-1 finals from Graham Perek over Devon Akers in the two singles court. Dylan Staley and Zach Leedy were perfect in beating Nathan Smith and Aidan Hoffman in singles play and the tandems of Brady Robinson and Jacob Krugman at one and Jake Cowan and Evan Richey at two against Bryce Tucker and William Farmer, and Charlie French and Gary Wu.

Colin Rhodes won the only JV tilt in an 8-0 win for the Warriors.

Wawasee (3-3) will meet Concord Thursday.

Volleyball

Manchester earned a 3-1 win at Wawasee. The Squires rallied from a 25-21 loss in game one to close out at 25-18, 25-19, 25-13.

Eva Bazzoni paced Manchester with eight kills and Anna Osborne had seven hammers and five blocks. Emma West had 28 assists and 12 digs.

Stats were not issued for Wawasee.

In the JV match, Manchester rallied for a 23-25, 25-11, 15-14 win over the Lady Warriors.

Manchester’s Lydia Greer came through with 14 digs and four assists, Kendra Kline had 11 assists and Andrea Kahn and Kyrsten Eakright had four kills each. Stats were not issued for Wawasee.

The freshman contest was won by Wawasee 25-5, 25-15.

For Wawasee, Emma Dippon had seven kills and three aces, Delaney Hare registered five aces and two digs, and Corin Nyce had nine assists and two kills. For Manchester, Karen Jimenez had a pair of kills and four digs, and Kayleigh Godsee and Aubree Lambert combined for 11 digs.

Wawasee (1-8) opens Northern Lakes Conference play Thursday at Plymouth.

Cross Country

Wawasee’s boys cross country opened its season on the right foot Tuesday, earning wins against Concord and Goshen.

The Warriors beat Concord 24-31 and Goshen 25-32 while Concord salvaged the split with a 28-29 escape of Goshen.

Concord’s Luke Owings led the way with a time of 16:08 running away with the medalist position. Wawasee had Spencer Hare (16:40) and Luke Griner (16:44) in the next two spots, then had Michael Hammer eighth (17:24) and Braxton Alexander ninth (17:37) and Ben Hoffert 12th (18:10).

The girls team from Syracuse split its double dual, beating Goshen 25-32 but falling to Concord 38-19.

The Concord trio of Summer Cooper, Alexa Porter and Jana Fisher led the way, taking the top three spots paced by Cooper’s 20:20. Wawasee had four of the next seven times, with Kenzie Smith fourth (21:06), Caitlin Wortinger sixth (22:13), Valeria Pizana ninth (22:56) and Autumn Turner tenth (23:05). Ella Beezley was the fifth score for Wawasee in 19th at 23:56.

Wawasee competes again Tuesday at NorthWood in an NLC three-way with Northridge.
