TOLEDO, OHIO — Last November, 11-year-old Triston Morehead saw a homeless woman shivering.

“I was like, ‘If I was shivering, I would want someone to give me a blanket,” said Triston.

The Toledo, Ohio girl then asked her mother if she could give the woman a blanket from the trunk of their car. Her mother agreed.

“She said, ‘Thank you. You don’t know how much I was cold.’ And she was just so happy,” said Triston. “That made me feel so good and I want to continue to do that.”

That day last November gave the seventh grader an idea: raise money and make blankets for more homeless people.

“I’m just trying to save up and build because it’s a lot of money to give to a lot of people,” said Triston.

Every dollar and cent matters no matter how big or how small.

“They said, ‘Here Triston, you can have these pennies.’ I said, ‘OK. These pennies add up,'” said Triston, shaking her donation jar filled with more coins than dollars.

She calls her effort, “Covers of Love” because every blanket is made with love.

“I say it all the time. I think she’s been here before. That’s how she acts. You know? Couldn’t ask for a better daughter,” said her father.

That’s why the adults she inspired nominated her to win a bicycle.

“For her to win this because of that, makes her more dedicated to get those blankets done,” said her mother.
