Warsaw Sports Wrap: Aug. 22
Boys Soccer
A strong second half earned the Warsaw boys soccer team a 2-0 win at Fort Wayne Northrop.
The Tigers, after a scoreless opening half, got second-half goals from Eric O’cock and Blake Burns to top the Bruins.
Warsaw improves to 3-0-1 on the season.
Warsaw took the junior varsity match 4-0. Landon Voss led the winners with two goals and an assist. Adam Brown and Ethan Grill each had a goal, while Griss and Isaiah VanPuffin each had an assist as the JV Tigers improved to 1-0-2.
Warsaw will host Plymouth in its Northern Lakes Conference opener Thursday night.
Freshman Football
The Warsaw freshman football team rallied to top Columbia City 16-8.
The Tigers trailed 8-6 at halftime before earning its second win in as many games.
Mason Martz tossed a pair of touchdown throws to pace the frosh Tigers. Luke Adamiec and Kaden Silveus each had a touchdown catch for the winners.
The duo of Colton Wampler and Martz each had strong rushing performances and Adamiec added a two-point conversion catch.
Zach Ransbottom had a fumble recovery and Austin Slone caused a fumble to lead the defense. The trio of Adamiec, Jacob Hawn and Ben Brennan were also cited for their strong performances on defense.
Warsaw plays at East noble Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.
Girls Soccer
The Warsaw girls soccer team opened conference play by blanking Plymouth 5-0.
Abby Steffensmeier led a strong all-around team effort with a goal and an assist for the Tigers in the home victory in the Northern Lakes Conference opener.
The quartet of Brenna Shipley, Brenna Buhrt, Anna Sullivan and Anna Grill each had one goal for the winners.
The trio of Audrey Grimm, Delaney Taylor and Dayle Harvey each had an assist for the Tigers.
Chloe Snow collected the shutout in goal for Warsaw.
“Looking back, it would be unfair to highlight one or two players, because everyone who stepped on the pitch tonight played exceptionally well,” said Warsaw coach Jon Hoover of his team. “The team is determined to “not settle.” We take time to celebrate each win, but then move forward by putting in the work to be even better the next time.”
Warsaw improves to 2-2-1 overall and moves to 1-0 in the NLC.
Plymouth won the junior varsity match 1-0. The Warsaw JV is now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NLC.
Warsaw returns to NLC play Thursday night with a contest at NorthWood.
