Mary Francis Howard, 93, Wabash, died at 5:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor East in Wabash. She was born Nov. 23, 1923 in Owingsville, Ky. to Charles and Frankie D. (Purvis) Vanlandingham.

Mary was a 1941 graduate of LaFontaine High School. She married Lawrence J. Howard, in Wabash, on January 17, 1944; he died July 2, 1981. Mary was a homemaker and a member of the Wabash Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking, working puzzles, shopping, and card playing. She also enjoyed sending greeting cards to all and cooking for shut-ins.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Kari (Troy) Karshner of Roanoke; and Niki Schmutte of La Porte; two great-granddaughters, Morgan Karshner and Lauren Karshner, both of Roanoke. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Lana Jean Schmutte, who died in 1997, five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24 at Wabash Church of Christ, 1904 N. Wabash Street, Wabash, with Josh Fennell officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 12:30 – 2 p.m., Thursday at the church. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash.

Preferred memorial is Wabash Church of Christ.
