Warsaw Sports Wrap: Aug. 21
Girls Golf
The Warsaw girls golf team opened conference play with wins over Wawasee and Elkhart Memorial.
The Tigers took honors in the Northern Lakes Conference triangular by shooting a 202 in action at the Christiana Creek Country Club in Elkhart.
Wawasee shot a 205 and the host Crimson Chargers a 218 in the league matchup.
Delaney Wihebrink led the way for Warsaw as she captured individual medalist honors with a fine score of 43.
Madelyn Ray shot a 52 and Grayson Kilburn a 53 for coach Tad Nieter’s team. Miriam Hagg had a 54 and Izzy Ray a 58 for the Tigers.
Zoe White paced Wawasee with a 48. Belle Bruner shot a 50 and Jadison Rostochak a 51 for the Warriors. Lesley Teyouga had a 56 and Ava Harker a 63.
Courtney King led Memorial with a 44.
Warsaw improves to 9-2 overall and goes to 2-0 in league action. Wawasee sits at 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the NLC, while Memorial drops to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Warsaw shot a 235 in junior varsity play. Julia Hildebrand had a 56 to lead the way. Brooklyn Fitzgerald and Anna Morgan each shot a 59, while Cassidy Good and Valerie Messmore each had a 61.
Tate Cowan shot 59 for the Wawasee JV squad. Valerie Hessig had a 61 and Ryan Galloway a 64.
Lilly Spray had a 58 for the Memorial JV.
Warsaw hosts Plymouth Thursday at Stonehenge. Wawasee will host NorthWood and Northridge Thursday at South Shore.
Volleyball
The Warsaw volleyball team dropped a 3-0 final to Homestead.
The Spartans topped the Tigers 25-19, 25-16, 25-15 in the non-conference matchup in the Tiger Den.
Lexie Day paced the offense for Warsaw with eight kills on the night. Kennedy Lauck finished with five kills and Hanna Leach added four.
The duo of Day and libero Erin Peugh each had 15 digs for the Tigers. The trio of Kacy Bragg, Peugh and McKenna Hawblitzel each had an ace.
Bragg had seven assists and Lauck led the blocking department with five. Betty Barnett had four blocks and Day added three.
The Warsaw junior varsity improved to 3-0 by downing Homestead 25-12, 25-22.
The Warsaw varsity, which is now 4-3 on the season, will return to action Saturday in the Mishawaka Invitational. The eight-team tournament, which also includes Elkhart Memorial, Mishawaka Marian and South Bend St. Joseph, begins at 9 a.m. at John Young Middle School. Warsaw will open pool play versus St. Joe at 9 a.m. The Tigers will then also play Memorial and Carmel in pool play action.
Boys Tennis
The Warsaw at Mishawaka Marian boys tennis match was postponed Monday night due to transportation issues for the Tigers.
The match is rescheduled for Wednesday (Aug. 23) at 5 p.m. at Marian.
Warsaw, which is 1-1 on the season, will then host Elkhart Memorial Thursday in its Northern Lakes Conference opener.
