WARSAW — The Warsaw Parks & Recreation will now allow rental of the digital sign located at the Central Park entrance on North Detroit Street.

Park Board Superintendent Larry Plummer advised board members that they have discussed renting out the new digital marquee. There will be specific criteria and guidelines for this, such as only those who rent a park facility will be eligible to place an ad on the marque, private rentals will pay for a three-day ad and public events will have an ad run for seven days at the cost of $20, choosing from a list of pre designed backgrounds. Sign wording and design will be pending approval by Warsaw Parks Department. Rental proposal, rates and criteria were approved at the meeting.

Plummer informed board members that an individual from the Warsaw Library Board accepted the position to replace Rick Paczkowski on the Park Board and will be sworn in at the next Park Board meeting.

Maintenance Director Shaun Gardner said the DNR has started construction of the new boat ramp at Bixler Park, 503 North Detroit Street, Warsaw. Gardner also stated they have been working on leveling up lower areas at the parks and building up sidewalks in an effort to prevent potential accidents.

According to Recreation Director Sheila Wieringa, Aug. 15 was the last official weekday for lifeguards. Wieringa stated that lifeguards will be present at area beaches only on weekends from this point on.

Wieringa also advised that with the addition of programs and events there is a need for part-time administrative assistance in the recreation department. A seasonal employee will be transitioning to part-time to fill this need in the near future.
