Benjamin J. Krakowski, Jr., 87, Plymouth, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at St. Regional Medical Center of Plymouth.

Ben was born on July 11, 1930 in Ashton, Neb. to Benjamin E. and Mary (Stobbe) Krakowski. On May 4, 1954 Ben married the former Merna Schuller; she preceded Ben in passing on Sept. 9, 2010. They were blessed with four children.

Ben, Merna and family moved to Plymouth in 1969, they owned and operated the Big Blue Store until 1990. Ben enjoyed working in customer service, he spent ten years at the Plymouth Wal-Mart where her made many friends. Ben also worked for the Plymouth Street department. Ben enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets and going to garage sales. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge. Ben honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was awarded with the Purple Heart. Ben was also a member of the Saint Michael Catholic Church.

Ben is survived by his two sons, Mike (Cindy) Krakowski of Plymouth; Tim Krakowski of Plymouth; his daughter, Roxanne Christison of Plymouth; his two sisters: Phyllis McCarville of Grand Island, Nebraska and Joan Sullivan of Rockville, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Sheldy Christison and Rachel Christison; two great-grandchildren, Braeden Christison and Amelia Selmer; Ben is preceded in passing by his parents, his wife, Merna, his son, Dennis J. Krakowski on June 17, 1992, his sister and three of his brothers.

The Van Gilder Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Krakowski family. A funeral will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug, 17 in the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street Plymouth, Indiana 46563 with Fr. John Korcsmar officiating. Burial will follow in the New Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post 27, VFW Post 1142 and the DAV.

A time of visiting with the Krakowski family will be from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 in the Van Gilder Funeral Home.
