ORLANDO, Fla. — North Webster’s Abigayle Smith recently participated at the USA Elite Futures World Fastpitch Championship in Orlando, Fla.
Smith, who was one of just 26 players from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia selected to the Great Lakes Region 12U team back in June, cranked out three home runs over the week of the championships, which took place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, helping her team to a 4-2 finish. The Great Lakes 12U team ultimately lost a heartbreaker to the Southeast region team by a single run in the quarterfinals.
Typically, players at the USA Elite Futures World Fastpitch Championship meet their coaches and teammates and have at least one practice before games begin, but, due to uncooperative weather, the first time the girls played together was on the field for their first game this year.
Prior to heading to Florida, Smith finished up a week at the NSA World Series in Crown Point, where her Indiana Sluggers 04 team placed fifth.
