Douglas “Doug” Shidler, 69, Leesburg, died Thursday, July 27 surrounded by his family. Doug was born on January 3, 1948. He graduated from Snider H.S, Fort Wayne. He was a proud Vietnam veteran who served in the US Army as a medic from 1967-70.

He loved that his career in car sales allowed him to know so many people in the community.

Surviving him are his wife Jeanette; his son Christopher, and wife Rebecca; his daughter, Mandi, and husband, Terry Hygema; and his five grandchildren. Also, his brother, Mervin, and his wife, Florien, California.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 4, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Eastlund Funeral Home. A rosary service will be Friday at 7:30 p.m.  A Mass will be held for Doug on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Syracuse with Father Andrew Nazareth officiating.

Burial will follow at the Hillcrest cemetery in Pierceton. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Webster American Legion.
