Summer Classes And Events At The Y

WARSAW — Kosciusko Community YMCA will be starting the second session of summer classes on July 17.  Classes will run through Aug. 27. Classes for youth will include swim lessons, youth fitness and gymnastics classes for all ages. Registration for summer classes will start on July 10 for everyone.  In addition to classes, the Y is offering several events for all ages this summer, see the website for more information www.kcymca.org.

To support those in our community going through cancer and their caregivers, the Y is hosting “Kathy’s Cancer Conversations,” a volunteer-led cancer support group meeting on the 2nd Monday of each month from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living inside the YMCA.  On July 10, Rev. Corrine Hodges will lead the group in a conversation about how to “Calm Down our Minds”  On Aug. 14, Drumming will be offered as a way to elevate mood, decrease anxiety and boost the immune system.  For more information on our volunteer-led cancer support group contact Stacy Thomas at [email protected] or (574) 269-9622 x216

The Y will also be starting another LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA class this fall.  LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is an evidence-based program built on best practices for cancer survivor exercise. The goals of the program are to empower adult cancer survivors to improve functional capacity and to increase their quality of life through an organized program of fitness and strength offered in a supportive, small-group setting.  For more information on joining the program contact Stacy Thomas at [email protected] or (574) 269-9622 x216.

Parkview Health will offer free A1C tests during their Check-up Day in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living in the YMCA lobby from 6-9 a.m. on July 11.  For more information contact Parkview Health at (260) 672-6500 or (844) 835-0003.  This test is used to determine whether or not you are pre-diabetic.  The Y will be offering the Diabetes Prevention Program again this fall to equip those with pre-diabetes to keep it from turning into diabetes.

CPR classes will be offered to the community from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 22. If CPR certification is needed for a job or if someone wants to be more prepared to handle an emergency, they can sign up for this American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR class. The class will teach adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, but does not include first-aid.  This class provides a two-year certification. There is a cost for participation and certification. For kids, the Y is offering Saturday Cheer Clinics in preparation for launching a competitive cheer team in the fall.  These clinics will be for ages 5-14 on July 15 and 29 and Aug. 5, 12, 19.  Kids will develop skills in tumbling, stunting, jumps and dance and build confidence in front of a crowd.  Golf Camp in partnership with Raccoon Run will be offered for ages 7-13, from 9 to 11 a.m. on July 18-20.  Sign up at the YMCA’s Welcome Center by July 14.  The Y will also be hosting an Indiana Pacers Camp presented by The National Basketball Academy on July 17-21 for ages 5-17.  You can register for this camp at www.pacerscamps.com.  Contact Zane Gard for information on either camp at [email protected] or (574) 269-9622 x238.
