Jane G. Stump, 97, a former resident of South Whitley, Ind., passed away early Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in the Richland Bean Blossom Healthcare Center, Ellettsville, Ind.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1915, in Chicago, to C. Vance and Blanche Sines Green. At the age of three, her family moved to South Whitley where she spent her formative years. She graduated from the South Whitley High School in 1933 and Manchester College in 1936. After receiving her teaching degree, she taught for three years in the Larwill grade school. On June 3, 1939, she was united in marriage to Robert R. Stump. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1990.

Jane and her husband made their first home in Lyndon, N.J., later moving to South Holland, Ill., and in 1944, moved to South Whitley. In 1949, she started teaching kindergarten in the South Whitley Schools for five years, then they moved to Michigan, and later returned to South Whitley in 1957 where she continued her teaching career. Jane retired in 1983 as a first grade teacher. Jane was a member of Church of God.

She is survived by two sons: David (Daphne) Stump, Charlotte N.C.; Jim (Mary) Stump, North Webster, Ind.; a daughter: Maryanne (Rick) Smith of Unionville, Ind.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister: Patricia Brock, Newland, N.C.

She is preceded in death by a daughter: Mary Jane; and a brother: Robert C. Green.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, in the funeral home with the Reverend Dennis Judy officiating. Burial will take place in South Whitley Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Grace Village in Winona Lake.
