Idelpha “Jean” Price, 88, passed away on June 12, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Warsaw.
Jean was born April 25, 1929, in Zanesville (Union Township), Wells County, Indiana, to Reverend Floyd and Vernice (Grenert) Wilson. Jean was a 1947 graduate of Morton High School in Morton, Illinois.
Jean was married to William E. (Bill) Price on July 31, 1948 in Peoria, Ill. with her dad officiating the wedding. They moved to Etna Green, Indiana in 1950, where Jean lived until two years ago. Bill preceded Jean in death in 1999.
Jean worked at Cecil’s Tomato Canning, L&R, and Gerring’s, but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She worked alongside her husband, Bill, for 36 years as caretakers of the Etna Green cemeteries and park, and tending a large garden and yard. Jean was most happy working in her many flowerbeds. Jean was a member of the Sr. ONO club in Etna Green, and an active member of the Etna Green Church of Christ. She was a talented artist, singer, and writer.
Most importantly, Jean was a loving mother and grandmother who loved the Lord. She taught us about kindness, unconditional love, how to be ornery, to jump in and get our hands dirty (literally), that it’s ok to want but to be thankful for everything you already have as it is so much more than most, to love the gift of song and laughter, and the gift of family even more, to never take a single day for granted, to never forget to say “I love you,” and that through Christ all things are possible.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Bill, sons William E. Price, Jr. and Donald F. Price, grandson Daniel E. Price, great-grandsons Noah M. Rodriguez and Jasper R. Engle, her parents, four sisters, and one brother.
Surviving are sons David K. (Jennifer) Price and James. R. (Carol) Price, both of Etna Green, and daughters Deborah L. (Douglas) Powell and Rosalie G. Kauffman, both of Warsaw, and daughter-in-law Brenda Price Gardner of Leesburg, Georgia. Also surviving, are 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and siblings Joan Moschel and James Wilson.
Visitation will be held at the Etna Green Church of Christ on Friday, June 16 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., with services immediately following at 2 p.m. Burial will be at the Etna Green Cemetery. Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home of Bourbon, Indiana, will be handling arrangements.
Memorials in Jean’s memory can be made to the Etna Green Church of Christ.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home is privileged to be entrusted in arranging the services.
