Town Attorney Jim Walmer, left, explained where the land sits and why the town was interested in disposing of it while Winona Lake Clerk-Treasuer Kent Adams, right, takes notes.

WINONA LAKE — The Winona Lake Council held a public hearing this morning, May 30, to discuss the possibility of selling some real estate the town has.

Town attorney Jim Walmer explained where the property sits — to the east of Chestnut Street and south of Mineral Springs running southward. The land sits next to the Street Department.

Walmer further explained the topography of the land, and discussed how it currently brings in no income for the town.

There have been no decisions made on whether this land will be sold. The public hearing was to garner a response from Winona Lake residents. Should it be decided that the land will be sold, a notice will be published publicly and bids will be taken.

Resident Lew Mackey was present at the meeting to mention a concern regarding land ownership. Mackey lives in the allotted area and believes there are some discrepancies in who owns what land.

Town Coordinator Craig Allebach insisted that title work would have to be done before any land is sold and the town would not be able to sell any land it does not own.
