Elkhart Memorial SportsELKHART – Jeff Wallace is the new man in charge of the Elkhart Memorial girls’ basketball program.

Wallace was approved earlier this week to take over the Crimson Chargers, replacing Steve Scott. Scott resigned after six seasons in March and then was hired as the girls’ basketball coach at Mishawaka Marian.

Wallace comes to Memorial after spending the past five years at St. John Lutheran School in Indianapolis. He was the Athletic Director there and also coach grade school basketball.

Wallace previously had a very successful tenure as the girls’ coach at St. Joseph High School in Michigan. He compiled a 72-34 mark there from 2008-12, winning three district championships and one conference title.

Wallace will teach at West Side Middle School. He and his wife Alli, who has family in the South Bend area, have a newborn daughter Emery.

Wallace is the third new girls’ coach hired in the Northern Lakes Conference this offseason. Lenny Krebs moves from Goshen to Warsaw to replace Michelle Harter and former Goshen assistant Shaun Hill was hired to replace Krebs in the Maple City.

The Chargers were 73-60 the past six seasons under Scott. Memorial went 13-10 overall and 5-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference during the 2016-17 campaign. They are slated to return four starters next season.
