WARSAW  – Warsaw Community High School standout senior Lindsay Baker has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Toledo next season.

Baker, a 5-11 guard with a deadly long-range jumper, plans to major in exercise science at Toledo.  Through her first six semesters at WCHS, Baker has established herself on both the court and in the classroom, earning an 11.85 cumulative GPA on a 12-point scale, while ranking 38th out of 511 WCHS seniors.

Baker averaged 14.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.6 steals per game her junior season.  She also shot an outstanding 84% from the foul line and was 45.3% shooting from 3-point range.

Baker was named to the Indiana Junior All-Star team, earned All Northern Lakes Conference first team honors, and was Area Player of the year in 2011-12.  She was also an Indiana Basketball Coaches Association All-State selection, All Northeast Indiana Second Team, and was a Hoosier Basketball Magazine All-State pick.

A  three-year starter for coach Michelle Harter’s Tigers, Baker earned a varsity letter as a freshman.  Last year, the Tigers finished an impressive 16-5, and were NLC champions the previous season with Baker being one the primary go-to players.

“Lindsay is a terrific three-point shooter and possesses a great basketball IQ,” said fifth-year Toledo coach Tricia Cullop in a story on the UT athletics website. “I love the fact she communicates so well on the court.”

Baker has helped lead the Tigers to a 2-0 start her senior season with wins over Huntington North (64-42) and Fort Wayne Luers (61-44). She has totaled 26 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and three steals in the pair of victories.

Baker has been involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletics, the Octagon Club, National Honor Society, the YMCA, and The Boys and Girls Club.

Toledo signed three players for next season Wednesday. Joining Baker to ink with the Rockets were Olivia Braun, a 6-1 guard/forward from Racine, Wisconsin, along with Sophie Reecher, a 6-3 forward from Byron, Illinois.

“I’m excited about the potential of the three players we’re bringing in,” Cullop said. “Lindsay, Olivia and Sophie will fit very well into our style of play and will fill an immediate need.”
